This is only a 1% tax break for those creating jobs in the United States. Believe this or not, McCain had a stronger incentive to create jobs in the United States....that said, when this bill was announced the corporate lobbyists had a hissie fit.

So to me, the real question is will Government, not just Obama but the entire Congress kick these lobbyists out of D.C. They are the real ones destroying the nation in my view and manage to stop, rip out, destroy any attempts of putting U.S. Citizens, Americans first in jobs.

It's ridiculous too because other nations routinely negotiate for jobs..unfortunately our jobs, which this nation has just handed over in droves claiming it's part of trade.

I agree with you Emmanuel is the corporate lobbyists wet dream.

  • U6

I've never heard of U6, is this an official BLS stat or something from economists or shadowstats?

I've always through the real unemployment rate is much higher than reported and if you have a handle on this topic, a blog post might be cool for most do not.

  • And this is early in the process ... in the last to recessions, the unemployment-recession troughed about two years after the trough of GDP-recession.

  • bill offered up this year by Sen Levin (D-MI) to tackle offshore tax havens.

It will be a great victory if he follows through. The question is whether he will follow through. With Rahm Emmanuel in the Chief of Staff seat, I'm skeptical.

In 1992, Clinton swept in like this, and look at how that turned out.

I really want to see the EFCA get passed. Because if it doesn't now it never will.

  • ... tariff reduction is a countervailing credit. Say the US exports $1 in autos and automotive components to Korea for each $20 in autos and automotive components exported by Korea to the US. Then:

Korean exports to the US get a 5% reduction in tariff rate ($1/$20, max 100%)

An advantage is that, of course, no trade agreement is required. Its up to the Koreans to work out how they are going to increase imports of US autos and auto components in order to pull down the effective tariff rate.

  • one proposal, one witness. An IRA and CDs are not 401ks which have different laws and are usually part of an employee retirement package.

I believe if your Dad puts joint accounts on the IRA and CDs then survivorship isn't an issue and doesn't go into a will. If they are in his name only, they probably will.

You might check with an estate planner if you are concerned.

How long has these discussions been going on?

Will return for a reply hope you or others find it worthwhile to answer.

    Thanks in advance.

  • ...I agree with the thrust of you argument. School has been dumbed down to a level where 'graduates' don't have the skillset our complex civilization needs to survive.

A good knowledge of History and English, including..gasp, how to write being essential along with mathematics, physics and a few other things....

    But.

Blaming the teachers for this is like blaming the UAW for sending jobs to China.

    It's not their fault.

What do you think 'Now Child Left Behind' really is about?

It's the crowning achievement of the idiots of the Upper Tenth. An attempt to destroy public education once and for all.

    And Ted Kennedy was co-sponsor....

Look, ever since the 1890s when the first progressives started the concept of public schools the 'conservative' scum have attempted to destroy it. Far, far better from their perspective that you kids get 'educated' by the local church where they an learn about Creation Theory and such than they learn anything about the River Rouge Plant shootdown or the HayMarket Bombing.

    Much less economics.

Most school teachers I know are in despair because the 'citizenry', just as they were about The Big Shitpile, are pig-fucking-ignorant of the so far successful plan to keep their kids just as dumb as they are.

  • The minute attorneys are subject to these same global labor arbitrage practices, then things would change.

Anyone notice that the career areas making sure other US workers are royally screwed by global labor arbitrage are protected?

Attorneys have the bar and a host of labor protections to keep them from being subject.

(not referring to this legal case or the attorneys involved, talking about the entire legal occupational field).

  • There is a Federal Court case in Washington D.C. by the Immigration Reform Law Institute seeking damages against Homeland Security because DHS has consistently exceeded the 60K quota for H1Bs. The crux of the suit is damages for economic injury. It is a fact that the 60K quota has been exceeded almost every year. Outsourcers brag that they can beat the quota. The questions is the nature of damages.

If (maybe when!) the suit suit is settled, there will be damages paid, somehow and injunctive relief. The wording of the suit may be the basis for other actions on other Visa types and firms hiring illegal aliens.

It took a few years after the signing for the damage to show. It was about to break when Willie left office, and W. helped out all he could.

I have no idea what INDIREFI is so feel free. This is a community blog & the only sacrilege is to write economic fiction.

  • The idea of a manufacturing rebound is gaining traction. But the hour is getting very late. Lebeau on CNBC is very vocal in favor of the midwest and manufacturing, and autos.

Should I post a 2.0 version of INDIREFI? This one goes into detail on the financing for infrasturcture. Hint: using Enterprise Funds, with similar (Treasury) liabilities and same industrial targets. EFs will not increase the size of the Federal or state deficits.

Reagan rounded up the crooks. Clinton opened the door to let them in. Bush and crew destroyed the place and stole everything in site.
